We caught up with local blogger Katya’s Cake Hole to chat inspiration and all things blogging. Katya runs a food themed lifestyle blog which has been going over one year and covers recipes, food trends and personal posts.
How did you first start blogging?
I was about to take voluntary redundancy at the BBC a year ago and I wanted to start a career in ‘food’. So food blogging seemed like a good place to start.
How would you describe your blog?
It’s mainly a food blog – reviewing restaurants and cookery books. It’s also about my travels, my career and some personal stories. For example at the moment I’m trying to give up ice cream which I’m quite addicted to and I’m sharing my journey.
How would you describe your blog?
My blog is fun, frank, meaningful.
Do any bloggers inspire you?
I Like Tweet, Chocolate and Zucchini and Old Fashioned Susie.
What are your thoughts on the Manchester Blogging scene?
I think it’s exciting. I’ve just joined a group of bloggers called WeBlogMCR and Holly Wood who started the group is putting on workshops and events that are really useful. Holly is determined that as Manchester Bloggers we should collaborate and help each other. I’m sure this will help raise our profiles. It’s not all about London.
What is your favourite thing about Manchester?
That you can do city or countryside.
How do you think shifts in algorithms and visibility is impacting bloggers?
I’m not techy enough to have an opinion on this.
Where do you see your blog going in the future?
I would love to be well known and inspire people to cook from scratch and be more healthy.
Which are your favourite brands?
Oliver Bonas, Jo Malone and Benefit
How would you describe your personal style?
Colourful, contemporary.
What advice would you give to new bloggers?
Keep it in short and sweet. Long blog posts are usually boring! And just post, post, post. You just get better each time you post. It doesn’t matter if it’s not that good at first, you will improve quickly.
