D1 Spirits Cocktail Exchange comes to Rosso Manchester

Rosso Restaurant may not be a usual shout on many lists for a weekend drink but it’s where our editors found themselves this past Friday having been invited to come and experience the new D1 London Spirits Cocktail Exchange venture. Mixologist matchmaker D1 London Sprits has paired up nine top UK cocktail bars (including Rosso Restaurant & Bar in Manchester) with bars in South East Asia to swap signature cocktails. This means that the residents of Manchester will be able to experience an authentic taste of South East Asia in their home town. Rosso aims to expand its mark on Manchester City Centre and become a venue of choice for it’s bar as well as it’s food menu, with the Cocktail Exchange being the first step in this rebranding of the locally renowned location. In collaboration with the Cocktail Exhcange, which will also be coming to a select few other bars in the country, Rosso has introduced two cocktails, taking on Singapore’s Artesian HK Spice Cocktail and curating a local delight the Mancunian Mandarin. Visiting during the Christmas period seemed a wise move as the usual luxury decor was taken up a notch with an expensive Christmas makeover which resembled something mostly…

Drink Italian and Live La Dolce Vita

.. If that’s not our personal mantra then I think it should be. The Italians are known for many things; fast cars, great food, better lovers but most importantly exceptional vino. Whether a robust red, a crisp white or refreshing rosé they really know how to do it all. On Tuesday night I was lucky enough to to be wine and dined, pun intended, by none other than Rosso Restaurant and Eurowines. Seated on the candle lit balcony of the restaurant we were greeted by Neil Collins of Eurowines and Giuseppe, Rosso’s very own wine connoisseur. Awaiting us on the table were antipasto fit for a true Italian, being of Italian descent I felt right at home. Fresh bread, olives, a little oil and balsamic vinegar. The tasting began with a brief introduction of Eurowines and its history before getting us to experience six distinctly different wines; one blush, two whites and three reds. Oh yes, I was in heaven. Before Rosso Restaurants rolls out its new wines for the upcoming season, Neil and Giuseppe taught us how to obtain the true taste of the wine along with the correct pairing of each. FIVE ROSES With its origin of Puglia, Italy this rosé is…

Manchester welcomes BUSABA

Fifteen years ago Alan Yau founder of Busaba opened his first branch on  Soho’s Wardour Street.  Busaba pronounced BOO-SAH-BAH named after a Thai flower is a modern eatery offering its guest a not so formal dining experience, but still catering to them with excellent service and scrumptious food. With eleven locations in the London area, Busaba is taking its talents and planting roots up north. Opening its doors this week with a grand opening on Thursday, Busaba is Manchester’s latest hot spot for hot food prepared to order and refreshing tipples with authentic tastes of Thailand. On Friday night half a dozen, or so of Manchester’s bloggers and journalist ascended to the first floor of Busaba in the Printworks to have our tastebuds tantalised by Head Chef Jude Sangsida. As guinea pigs for the night we were treated to their famous cocktails; like the mouth watering Lychee Martini and Bangkok Mule, aperitifs of fresh mango slices and sauces of Thailand from sweet, to salty, sour to spicy. Papaya salad lightly coated, calamari grilled to perfection, and chicken wings with just enough seasoning to put any football fan into a food coma. As part of an intermission we were introduced to Busaba mixologist,…

MOSI Tingles our Tastebuds

On Thursday 8th October STYLEetc were invited to an exclusive preview of the Manchester Science Festival,  to have our tastebuds tickled and tantalised at the Museum of Science and Industry. There was food sorcery from Mary-Ellen McTague  as delectable miniature canapés and delights which formed the first part of the experiential evening. We took part in the Kandinsky Effect, we were given three varieties of the same canapé using the exact same ingredients, however the test was they were presented in three different ways. The canapé was made with oyster-my absolute favourite, radish, verjuice which I had never heard of, mouli & beetroot, it was utterly delicious. The next stage, we tasted a variety of fruit juice samples each one was the wrong colour which is the strangest brain twisting concept. I still cant get over how amazing the effect of just simply changing the colour of something that is consumed on a daily basis can become so confusing, I was utterly confused throughout this section of the experiment still can’t workout how lime and lemon juice were made blue and green??? We were also sampled some sweet treats which was my favourite part of the whole evening, my favourite…

Hugo Boss: The Scent

Everyone knows the brand Hugo Boss; From their iconic men’s suits, sharp tailoring and flawless designs, it’d only be right for them to up their game in the fragrance stakes too. With numerous fragrances already showcased to the world it was that time for them to fire out another and I therefore give to you Hugo Boss: The scent. Fragrances are a hot commodity for any brand whether it be designer or a reality star. It’s that product that allows them to connect with the customer time after time and fragrance after fragrance. And with all scents the brand has to hold a distinctive smell that when you waft past that perfume counter you’d recognise it in an absolute heartbeat. This being said, when a brand creates a new scent they must keep that specific smell but also bash out a new and vibrant allure. So, when that invite for my chance to witness the new new Hugo Boss scent came about I was just a little bit giddy. So what if the scent wasn’t for women? Arriving at Gotham around 6:30pm and heading on up to the top floor, the lift doors flung open and we clambered our way on…

When Dalmore Met Rosso

At Style Etc. we don’t like to have favourites but as far as restaurants go well, Rosso  in Manchester is way up there. So, when they  invited us ’round for a whiskey tasting of Dalmores famous Whiskey we knew we would be in for a treat. Sampling six distinctly different types of single malt whiskey’s, ranging from 15 years all the way to 45 years aged.   The Dalmore whiskey has been around since 1839 created in Scotland, changing hands from great grandfather to current representative Master Distiller Richard Paterson. The Dalmore Collection houses some of the rarest and oldest single malts in the world and for the first time, it will be bringing The Dalmore 1978 to Manchester – exclusively to Rosso. The Dalmore ’78 also coincides with the year restaurant owner and Manchester United Legend Rio Ferdinand was born. The 1978 has notes of almonds, peach and pear swirled into a rich mahogany gold. It is part of The Constellation Collection, a stunning family of 21 individual expressions – crafted at The Dalmore distillery between the years of 1964 and 1992. They have spent their lives finessing in the finest casks around the world before being bottled at natural cask strength and colour. The Dalmore whiskey and the Rosso experience are a well suited match, both offering the finest quality…

Review: Burger and Lobster

Burger and Lobster is quickly becoming everyones favourite dining spot since it opened in August. Based on the same winning formula as its London eateries, Burger & Lobster is aiming to take the city by storm with the offer of its simple yet unique dining experience that often sees Londoners queuing around corners to eat. Situated just off King Street, the new 200-cover restaurant is housed within the stunning art-deco exteriors of Ship Canal House and will restore the interior of the once-tired dingy office space, to its former glory and into the coolest dining haunt in town!  The restaurant is complete with the biggest lobster tanks in the North West and edgy local artwork, which adds to the edgy vibe of the eatery. The interior comprises of tall ceilings, brick walls and bare light bulbs, as well as wooden tables and a private dining area surrounded by lobster cages, perfect for big groups and work night outs! We tucked into the burgers which can be cooked medium or well done depending on your taste. They come with a good size portion of fries and home made coleslaw to top everything off. We also tried the Lobster Mac and Cheese…
