Food Porn Awards
On June 14th the Castlefield Gallery in Manchester held the annual Food Porn Awards; opening its doors to food enthusiasts, bloggers and judges who salivated over the array of images displaying the finalist’s finest dishes.
The popularity of the awards has been blossoming since the event first took place in 2014. Now, for the third time, food fans have been invited to judge a selection of photographed dishes from restaurants, bars and pubs that have entered the competition.
All of the contenders are from eateries based in Manchester and also the surrounding areas. To name just a few, included is the stylish Menagerie and quirky cereal cafe, Black Milk. There is a real eclectic mix of entries and something to satisfy every palette. To aid in selecting your favourite, the dishes have been categorised into two groups: fine dining and casual dining.
Food Art
Once the eateries had carefully crafted their most aesthetically pleasing dishes, the meals were photographed by Manchester based STM Photography. The pictures were subsequently displayed throughout the gallery in large frames, organised in an ‘Instagram style’ layout for a modern touch.
The warm atmosphere was further complimented by a constant flow of prosecco and generous selections of canapés circling the room. Alongside the images, three talented artists were taking part in a live art battle, and carefully painting their own interpretations of the food delights.
Food Talks and Voting
There was also a fascinating talk from Corin, the director of The Real Junk Food Project Manchester, a movement that actively decreases food waste and feeds people based on a ‘pay what you feel basis’. It was fascinating to her Corin speak with such passion and it was great to learn more about the movement.
As of June 14th, lines have opened and you can vote for your favourite. But who will you choose? It certainly is a hard decision; luckily, you have until 18th October to consider your options. Category winners will be announced at the Northern Restaurant and Bar Show in 2018.
