A love revival has occurred lately, with everything 90’s being the muse for flavour of the SS17 season and mules at the forefront of this trend. Perhaps first adorned when mimicking your favourite spice girl, making it particularly hard to co-ordinate your dance moves in sink to these flimsy slip-ons, but as time moves on and dancing is of the former and finding a grown-up yet satorial wardrobe to befit a twenty or thirty something lifestyle, mules can be just the ticket for a throwback worth revisiting.
Let’s face it, they shall never be the practical shoe we wear to drive or walk long distance in, but they are pretty and do work well for a garden party/event/casual evening, delete as necessary. So simple to slide into as you’re about to run out the door to that social occasion, you won’t be left fiddling with clasps and buckles as the taxi one-bells you for the sixth time, bonus.
The revival of the Mule brings new takes on the trend, taking the retro shape yet incorporating fabrics and prints to make this very 2017. There is certainly risk being taken as designers go all out, bringing faux-fur, shimmering metallics and embroidery to the table in a bid to set the tone of next seasons aesthetics.
