From the moment we stepped through the doors at Santa’s Secret Workshop Grotto at Barton Square, the Christmas spirit was all around us. The children received extremely cute personalised passports to the North Pole and we were guided through a magical mirrored corridor to the Grotto.

The completely unique Grotto takes children on a fun-packed journey where you help to make Christmas happen. The Elves are unfortunately off sick and the kids have to get involved and help get Santa’s workshop up and running again in time for Christmas. The walk-thru Grotto journey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete as children help Santa to prepare food for the reindeer, sort presents and make decorations to take home.

The Reindeer Flying Fuel was a favourite activity for my 3 year old son, Prancer’s food bucket has never been so full!

The fun and enjoyment of the Grotto added so much more excitement to what we were going to do next. . .After passing through passport control it was time to meet the eagerly anticipated Santa, soft spoken and gentle natured he engaged  the children with a friendly giggle. Gifts in hand we took the all-important family Christmas photo and shouted Merry Christmas! Promising to be good boys and girls, we waved goodbye to Santa and his helpers.

Richard Paxton, General Manager for intu Trafford Centre said: “I’m truly amazed by just how good this Grotto is. Not only does it capture the joy of Christmas, it’s powerful enough to capture the imagination of an adult and take them on the journey with their children. This year it won’t just be the children saying ‘can I go again’ it’ll be the mums, dads and grandparents too. It’s absolutely fantastic!”

On a cold, wet and windy afternoon, the experience was a winter wonderful success and in the words of my 18 month old son just “wow!”
