What do you think of when someone mentions afternoon tea?
Little sandwiches and wraps? Scones with cream and jam?
At the Victoria and Albert Marriott Hotel in Manchester, the chefs have created a brand new Gentlemen’s Afternoon tea and we were lucky enough to sample it on its launch on Saturday 18th January.
In the lovely surroundings of their restaurant, which over looks the River Irwell, we were shown to our seats and offered a selection of speciality teas and coffees while we eagerly awaited the arrival of our lunch. And we were not disappointed!
Served on a warm slate, beautifully decorated with old fashion newspaper cuttings, the Gentlemen’s afternoon tea comprises of chunky chips, fish goujons, mushy peas, a succulent cheese and bacon burger, a mini steak pie, and a cheese scone with cream cheese and red pepper relish. Also on the slate was an intriguing looking box which contained our delicious mini desserts, Manchester tart and chocolate brownie.
The Gentlemen’s Afternoon tea is excellent quality and value for money. It’s the perfect lunch time treat and there is ample food to share.
Have no fear! This does not replace the traditional tea but if you’re looking for something different then I strongly recommend going for the Gentlemen’s version.
The Gentlemen’s Afternoon Tea is £16.95 per person or if you fancy a little tipple with your meal you can upgrade and receive a glass of Whiskey or Speciality Cask Ale for £19.95.
