Situated inside House of Fraser in Manchester, San Carlo Cicchetti is one of the San Carlo group’s concepts of all-day dining. Cicchetti means ‘small plate’ so the idea of their extensive menu is to order 2-3 small dishes at first and continue building until you feel full!
We popped by one night after work to sample their menu and Italian hospitality for ourselves. With a vegetarian amongst us, we chose the Ravioli with Spinach and Ricotta, rocket and paten tomatoes, as well as the Grilled Aubergine, with mint, chilli, garlic and mozzarella. Both are great options for non-vegetarian’s too as they were so full of flavour and a great healthy option.
We also went for the Polpette, traditional Italian Beef Meatballs with Tomato. These are huge and definitely enough to share! The sauce that they come with is lovely and great with their bread selection.
Another Italian favourite is their pizza; We went for the Margarita, which is the classic pizza of Naples with tomato, buffalo mozzarella and basil. It’s a great size for sharing but its more than enough for one after a hard day’s shopping.
Finally, dessert! If we could visit Cicchetti just for dessert we would! Their Dolce Cicchetti Platter is possibly the best dessert we’ve had this year! Although the same suggests small, its anything but! It has 4 of the restaurants best desserts on there, including profiteroles and chocolate cake, with generous helpings of cream and strawberry ice cream!
While San Carlo Cicchetti is the perfect place for a evening meal, it’s also great for sitting at the bar with olives and bread while sipping on a glass of cold prosecco and catching up with the girls. We will be back again for round two of dessert!
