This week saw the launch of Whisky Sessions at the Whiskey Jar in the Northern Quarter.
The Whisky Sessions Festival will take place on 21st and 22nd of November, at Victoria Warehouse and will see over 20 acts perform across the weekend, including Badly Drawn Boy, I am Kloot, Gomez and Tim Burgess.
We were treated to a set by James Walsh of Starsailor, who sang some of his hits which set the mood for the evening, accompanied by a selection of whiskey cocktails. (He also performed at the Isle of Wight Festival this year!) Having never drunk whiskey before, what to order was alien to us but when a Salted Caramel Old Fashion was mentioned, we had to try it! Safe to say, we loved its sweetness and soothing effects as we soaked up the atmosphere and heard some of his solo material.
Speaking after the Isle of Wight Festival, James said that he was “blown away by what happened” and that it was a “rush to play at a whiskey themed stage that seemed to really resonate with people.” He went on to say that he can’t imagine what it will be like when The Whisky Sessions take over its own venue but he assures us that “festival-goers will love it!”
The festival aims to bring together whiskeys from around the world, with talented musicians. Everyone that buys a ticket will also get entry to the tasting rooms where they can sample some of this renowned whiskeys for themselves, with cocktails being made by the fab team from The Whiskey Jar. But don’t fear, if whiskey’s not to your taste, they will have plenty of bars serving everything from wines and spirits, to beer and real craft ale. And to soak up all the alcohol, there will also be street food stalls!
Allen Gibbons, Group Chief Executive of IWSC Group has said that “We are delighting to be launching The Whisky Sessions, which we feel is a unique music experience with a whisky twist. Whisky has been the source of inspiration for countless numbers of musicians over the years, and as the world is currently exploding with great new whiskies from traditional and new countries, we though it was a great time to get the two together.”
Tickets for the festival cost £35 while there is also a limited number of VIP tickets for £55, all of which include whiskey tasting at the onsite Whiskey Hotel!
