Here at STYLEetc we’re dedicated to bringing you all our favourite holiday destinations. Next up on our travel list is Las Vegas (if only we could visit them all). Vegas is a trip definitely worth the gamble if you’re uncertain of committing to the trip, and with so much on offer who knows what could happen? We won’t tell if you won’t.
The Vegas strip on a usual sunny day
In a city surrounded by desert there’s certainly no shortages of things to do, it really is the ultimate holiday for those wanting a little bit of everything. To kick start your holiday you simply need to spend a day or two browsing the cities famed themed hotels. From the iconic Caeser’s Palace to have your own adventure worthy of the Hangover to the amazing Venetian, which comes complete with its own indoor and outdoor gondola canals, there’s every theme imaginable! The Luxor hotel is pyramid shaped, the Paris hotel has it’s own mini Eiffel Tower which you can go up and enjoy the view and the New York New York hotel is aesthetically laid out to look like the cities famous skyline, which features its own roller coaster, available for anyone to ride.

Staying at the Elara Hilton (attached to Planet Hollywood) was an experience in itself, in America you always have to think bigger! If you want a TV in your room, get a projector, if you asked for a bath, expect a jacuzzi, our group openly agreed we could have spent all week in just our hotel and still had a great holiday. All hotels have their own casinos built in so you’re never short of a place to try your luck! Most feature an array of restaurants, theatres and shopping malls (they really are huge when you go inside). The Stratosphere hotel is one place definitely worth a visit! Offering the opportunity to ride any of its four world record holding thrill rides, located 1,149 feet on the roof of the building, it’s not for the faint hearted but definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity to see. As expected there’s also lots of night life; the city never sleeps and neither will you. With nightclubs in hotels, pool parties every other day and big name DJ’s on offer to enjoy you need to snap up tickets before you go to avoid disappointment on the night.

Another must on your list is to see a show; with plenty of choice from live artists, magicians and novelty acts, who would pass up the chance to see Britney again after all? We saw Penn & Teller at the Rio hotel, which was good fun, but it’s best advised to buy your tickets from the outdoor kiosks located up and down the strip to score a discount as the costs can stack up if you plan on seeing a few different shows. If guns are your bag there are also a selection of shooting ranges to visit (they even have pink ‘girly guns’ for novices like myself). If you want to save money there are loads of free things to do, the hotels host displays which you can see as you walk by; the Bellagio fountains dance to different music every half hour, while the Mirage stages an exciting Volcanic eruption so realistic you can feel the heat coming from the faux lava! Treasure Island stage a pirate fight and dance show hourly in the evenings with amazing special effects. For a reasonable price you can also check out some wildlife during your stay; Mandalay Bay have an aquarium complete with Sharks, Sting Rays and an Octopus, while The Mirage have a more up close option with a dolphin habitat so personal you can almost touch them and a lion and tiger enclosure in the Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden.
The view overlooking the Grand Canyon
The final point of your trip has to conclude with a visit to the Grand Canyon, it really is indescribably breathtaking when you take in the view from the canyon plateau to the Colorado River; a mind blowing 4,000 feet below. To cut time off travelling there we got a helicopter which definitely added to the overall experience but depleted the budget quite a bit with the average trip costing $500, it’s worth shopping around online before you go. You can take bus tours to certain sections of the Canyon, we viewed ‘Eagle’s Point’ and got to see some traditional Native American huts and Tipi’s.

It really is the trip of a lifetime so if you want a combination of sun, night life, shopping, activities, breathtaking scenes and not to forget the awesome all American food then you’ll definitely fall in love wit Las Vegas.
