The mental health benefits of outdoor walks cannot be overstated. There’s something incredibly calming about being surrounded by nature, and it is known to decrease stress, anxiety and depression. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, a walk outdoors never fails to lift my spirits and clear my mind. The natural light also boosts mood by increasing vitamin D levels, which is essential for overall well-being. Plus, the rhythmic motion of walking is like meditation in motion, allowing me to tap into my creativity and improve focus and concentration.
“Incorporating outdoor walks into your routine is simple, but there are ways to maximise the benefits. Personally, I like to vary my routes to keep things interesting and challenging. I also make it a point to incorporate different terrains to work different muscle groups and prevent boredom. Using a fitness tracker can be incredibly motivating, as it allows us to set and track goals, keeping me accountable and motivated. And remember, consistency is key, so aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity each week to reap the full rewards.
