Christmas time brings out the festive fun in all of us and if this means we’re able to eat chocolate covered strawberries constantly and hit the ice rink around 4 times a month, then we’re definitely down for this. Around 3 weeks ago now, the lovely people from Manchester Ice Rink invited STYLEetc down to test out the rink on it’s opening night in it’s brand new home, New Bailey. Located still within the Spinningfield area but with easier transport access it’s a great new home.
Arriving at around 6:30pm along with a friend, Alex we ushered ourselves on in, grabbed some skates and tried our utmost hardest not to be put off by the rain. Oh, did I say rain because I meant torrential downpour. Waiting patiently at the rink Alex geared me up to ignore those skating nerves and to get on that ice come rain or well, more rain…
Skating around with lovely wet and curly hair we went round and round and through havin’ such a laugh we actually forgot about the weather. With more hitting the rink and my skills not improving much (I could swear I was once Torvil-esq) Alex decided it’d be fun for me to be pushed around by her pro skills on a child’s penguin. This sounds weird but you know the little hold-ons that children skate with to gain balance, well yeah I was using that.
After rounds and rounds of laughter (also screams as I feared I’d fall) we pushed off the ice and waited for Capital who co-hosted the night to bring in the celebrity guest. Officially opening the rink was the lovely Kym Marsh from Corrie and her daughter and after a little Q&A with the lovely Kym, in came the dancing act who mesmerised us with their fired hula hoops and dancing tale.
As our night drew to a close we grabbed a beer as the site held a little German Market, chatted for a little while and decided it was time for bed. After a very long day you’d think we’d be knackered but what I’d realised was, as much as I’d probably gained pneumonia I’d also had a seriously good time.
Thanks to Capital, the guys at Manchester Ice Rink and my lovely friend Alex who made me feel like a proper skating loser.
