En route to summer it’s standard habit for all to begin the gruelling path to achieving a summer body. Of course there are those who don’t want to sacrifice the good things in life in doing so, which leads to a wave of treat-meets-health-conscious snacks to try and fill that void in our lives whilst alleviating guilt. Enter Paxton’s Matcha Sea Salt Caramel Gourmet Hot Chocolate.
Available in tins containing a suspect looking crushed green powder, the first impressions were dubious as to whether the powder will meet up to taste expectations.
The promotional messaging of this Chocolate Tea promises to have all the taste, goodness and antioxidants of chocolate, but none of the naughtiness, which is is met with high acclaim should the proof be in the pudding.
Directions on the tin suggest this product is best served with warm milk, stirred in and left to fully blend before sampling results. For purpose of trialling all options, we did try this drink with purely hot water which didn’t go down well and made us endeavour to stick to tin instructions for future use.
After a second attempt to create this drink as directed, we followed the directions and created a colourful hot chocolate to sample in best form.
The bright green hue is severly noticeable and may not appear the most appetising of things but not to judge a book by it’s cover we persevered. The flavour was surprisingly sweeter than expected, the powered ingredients create a smooth and slightly creamy element which is familiar and comforting to drink.
Whilst it may not be the massive sugar rush of a typical hot chocolate, Paxton’s offering makes for a unique alternative ideal for those into trying something new. As a keen drinker of peppermint and green teas, I personally found this drink grew in favour the more it was drank. It exists as a hybrid, sweeter than herbal teas but subtler than sugary treats. Other flavours are also available including; Spiced Dark, Hazelnut and Pistachio, Orange and Earl Grey, Espresso and Sea Salt.
