In the year recognising 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare Selfridges has put together a modern re-imagining of the bard’s work, depicted through fashion.
Exclusive to Selfridges stores in London, Birmingham and Manchester, homage is paid to the famous wordsmiths greatest work, encompassing themes of tragedy, comedy and romance. Designers featured in this creative collection include showpieces by Rick Owens, Dries Van Noten and Simone Rocha, all of which will be merchandised and displayed in the Selfridges windows.
Refined and specific, ‘Act 1’ and ‘Act 2’ will offer a capsule look into Selfridges reflection on Shakespeare connotations. Hero styles of the Refashioned range include Christopher Kane’s Romeo and Juliet ‘Kissing Couples’ tees and jumpers, Rodarte’s capsule dress collection and Issey Miyake’s notable scarf collection.
Shakespeare Refashioned will encompass Selfridges’ most ambitious window scheme to date, photography by Mary McCartney, exclusive products across every category and from all corners of the world; and the be all and end all of in-store events programming.
Selfridges Creative Director Linda Hewson said this of the new display:
“Shakespeare is part of the fabric of our creative world and of contemporary society. The words spoken, the images evoked, the dreams realised, are of our time and of his. The gifted and visionary narrators brought together in celebration of Shakespeare’s life and works for Shakespeare Refashioned will tell stories we imagine the Bard would be proud of!”
