Celebrating their first birthday, Elixir Tonics and Treats located at 123 Deansgate hosted a private winter wonderland themed tasting party for a few ‘thirsty’ Mancunians. The cocktails were inspired by signature winter pick me ups, my favourite was definitely the ‘By the Fire’ cocktail, a rendition of Hot Chocolate served cold, a mix of creamy; mainly due to the torched marshmallow whipped cream topping, and smooth chocolatey goodness.
All the new cocktails were inspired by their philosophical element of Fire, Earth, Water, Air and Ether with theatrical props, specialised shots and magical décor. Guests were treated to a few nibbles, tonics and treats with theatrical entertainment in the form of fire eating, water tricks and air bubbles in and among the earth’s interior leaves and trees.
Partygoers were later lead downstairs to Elixir’s mystical basement; a bit reminiscent of a winter wonderland Narnia with sparkling ice, soft snow and intricate ice flakes, where the party continued with the cocktails flowing, well crafted to tingle your pallet. The ladies were treated to a piece of vintage glamour where they enjoyed sweet treats and heavenly refreshments with celebrity HD brows master Rachel Hall.
Partygoers revelled in the Mermaid’s Teardrop (£8.50) an aquatic blend of vodka, kwai feh, coconut and ocean syrup with a teardrop ice bomb and chocolate sea-glass shell.
Inspired by the flame’s spirit in motion, Elixir’s cocktail By The Fire (£8.50) proved to be another cherished tipple (My Fav), comprising of rum, dark chocolate liqueur, homemade chocolate syrup and a splash of cream, topped with a flaming marshmallow foam; a campfire favourite.
And for gin advocates; like myself, the mischievous and sweet Hope Floats (£8.50) creation is a must have. A playful twist on the classic white lady, with homemade bubble-gum gin and limoncello, egg white and lemon juice with a “hubble-bubble” cloud float, garnished with mini bubbles to blow.
Elixir was voted “Best Cocktail Bar 2014” by Design My Night Manchester, Just 10 weeks after being opened. Proud owners Jess & Dan Purnell expressed their delight over the new-season menu and commented on their birthday success:
“It’s been a wonderful year for Elixir and we’re over the moon to be turning one this evening. We’ve received a fantastic response from the new cocktails too! We wanted to create something for people to enjoy, share and experience. For us, that’s what it’s all about and with the Elements Experimental menu that’s precisely what you’ll find.”
Elixir Tonics and Treats is open Sunday to Thursday from 4pm to 1am and Friday and Saturday 12pm to 2am.
