Transport yourself into the world of Roald Dahl this September as part of the centenary celebrations of the beloved author’s birthday. To mark the 100th birthday celebrations, New Bailey Street will be transformed into a Roald Dahl wonderland and will play host to Glittering Eyes – An immersive pop-up cinema experience that will be showing a collection of the most-loved classic films including Matilda, James & The Giant Peach and Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory.
A sight to behold, a giant inflatable peach measuring 4.8m by 4.5m will also be rolling into New Bailey Street, where visitors can enjoy a fun-filled storytime session inside. If that wasn’t enough, visitors will be greeted by the BFG, they can take a magical walk through Willy Wonka’s garden or seek sanctuary in the pop up library.
Phil Mayall, Development Director of Muse Developments said: “Roald Dahl’s books have been a family favourite for as long as I can remember and we’re delighted to be able to celebrate these magical stories here in New Bailey. After the success of bringing the Manchester Duck Race to New Bailey, we’re keen to see more family focused events coming here. Our Roald Dahl themed event which we’ve called “Glittering Eyes” is just the beginning. As well as a whole host of children’s activities we will also be welcoming delicious street food to keep the parents happy too.”
The Glittering Eyes event will open at 11am on Saturday 10th September with James and the Giant Peach starting at 12pm and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate factory (1971) following at 3pm. Sunday 11th September will start at 11am with The Witches at 12pm and Matilda at 3pm.
Visitors are invited to arrive early, soak up the atmosphere and immerse themselves in this unique Roald Dahl experience!
The pop-up cinema will be situated on the Track, the outdoor events space next to Stanley Street and New Bailey Street in Spinningfields, Manchester.
