As part of Selfridges Beauty Project, we were invited to sample the new Tuberose Angelica fragrance from Jo Malone London, which has taken two years to create! We were treated to complementary Hand & Arm Messages at their Tasting Bar, along with a refreshing glass of bubbles! We are also shown their bespoke Fragrance Combining with the new scent to find our own gorgeous combination!
Our fragrance expert Chris told us that Tuberose is referred to as “the queen of the white florals” and the latest fragrance showcases why. The latest addition to the Cologne Intense series is mixed with the green spiciness off angelica and the warmth of amberwood to create a sensual, intoxicating and desirable fragrance. As its part of the Cologne Intense collection, the bottle is black instead of the usual clear bottles which represents the darker side of Jo Malone London.

He then combined it with Blue Agava and Cacao which is amazing! When choosing which fragrance to wear, Chris tells us to think about the memories that the scent evokes. So when he combined the Tuberose Angelica with Blue Agava and Cacao, I was immediately reminded of holidays! Master Perfumer Maria Salamgne has spoken about the harvesting of the Tuberose flower and told us that “Today, tuberose is cultivated and still hand harvested in India, and is also how and where the tuberose in Jo Malone London Tuberose Angelica is sourced. The flowers are picked every morning at dawn and then processed locally to produce the concrete. The flower is cultivated mainly in the province of Tamil Nadu where the finest and freshest flowers are harvested.”
She also explains why Jo Malone London’s interpretation of tuberose is different from other scents on the market; “Tuberose has been historically associated with warm spices or with a floral bouquet. This kind of structure is now a bit “vintage” and so we moved towards a contemporary story enhanced by the woody base. Tuberose Angelica revisits the classics but, for the first time, it turns the warm and spicy tuberose into a fresh spiciness, with the addition of angelica and pink pepper. Vivacity and modernity is added without hiding the voluptuous sensuality of the flower, which is deeply supported by amberwood in the dry-down.”
