As our twitter followers will be aware, this weekend STYLEetc were treated to a trip to Shanghai courtesy of Finnair who had an exciting announcement to make – a design collaboration with Finnish fashion and lifestyle brand Marimekko.
The collaboration launch began at Helsinki airport, where we were invited to enjoy a pre-flight drink in the Finnair Lounge whilst admiring the delightfully bold and colourful Marimekko ‘poppy’ adorned Airbus A340, which would transport us to Shangahi.
Upon boarding, we were greeted in business class with a glass of champagne, Marimekko-patterned cushion and an announcement that there would be a surprise after take-off!
Once up in the air, it was announced that our poppy plane was also the worlds first ever ‘catwalk in the sky’! Finnair cabin crew paraded the aisles wearing Marimekko designs whilst music played and a look-book style video showed on the TV screens! The display concluded to applause from the passengers and the CEO of Marimekko who was on board could be seen grinning from ear to ear!
Dinner was a specially designed menu featuring traditional Finnish delicacies, served to us on cheery Marimekko tableware. Washed down with a glass of wine we snuggled into our reclining seats, wrapped in Marimekko blankets, to watch movies and get some sleep ahead of the activities planned for us in Shanghai!
