We’re two bank holidays into the year and summer is well and truly on its way. Between distant shores, raucous road trips and impromptu Prosecco-fuelled picnics, if there’s one thing us Brits are good at it’s getting the most from the bit of sun we see.
With this in mind we’re giving you the lowdown on summer’s sexiest shades and how to find the perfect style for your face shape.
Heart Shaped
Heart shaped faces are the perfect backdrop for ultra-feminine styles. Cat eye frames work well to elongate the eye line and accentuate heart shaped faces beautifully. Miu Miu’s ‘Noir’ cat eye style screams Old Hollywood glamour, with a 1940’s retro shape that will complement this season’s high-waisted bikinis perfectly.

For some less pricey but just as chic, look towards recently reinvented sunglasses brand Le Specs and Jeepers Peepers. An icon of the 80’s, Le Specs has garnered a cult following that includes Kate Moss, Beyoncé and Rihanna to name but a few, and if there’s one thing the French brand does well it’s on-trend styles at petite prices. Style mavens Olivia Palermo and Kate Moss have both been spotted in Halfmoon Magic – a simple but suit all cat eye style. Spot the difference between these from Jeepers Peepers and the Miu Miu’s above!

Squared Jawlines or Strong Features
Round frames are having a bit of a moment – great news for those with squared jawlines and strong features. Round frames will create curves, balance strong angles and bring your look bang up to trend, all at the same time.
Cara Delevingne and Rihanna have both been spotted in Le Spec’s ‘The Dandy’ style, whilst the achingly hip ‘Ziggy’ frames were a constant companion for Beyoncé on her recent world tour.

New York-based Illesteva are masters in creating the most flattering and stylish round framed sunglasses. Handmade in Italy, each pair effortlessly combines timeless style with fresh trends, and it is little wonder that Alexa Chung and Kate Bosworth are big fans. Leonard, Illesteva’s signature style, is available in a range of colour ways. Whether you choose to embrace the perennial summer favourite of nautical stripes or opt for a classic tortoiseshell, these seriously cool sunnies will last far longer than any holiday romance.

Round
Add definition to round faces with angular frames. Rayban Wayfarers remain a style classic with a popularity that shows no sign of waning. New releases for 2014 include the incredible Wayfarer Leather. Available in brown or black leather, the new release retains the much copied but never bettered shape of the Wayfarer and combines it with a textured leather frame, guaranteeing some serious style kudos.
Rayban Leather Wayfarers, Debenhams, £250
Prism and Prada are both leading up the charge for square frames, with Prada’s Havana and Prism’s Milan and Sydney all giving a hefty dose of angular and awesome. Prism’s styles are available in various finishes, from matt black, cream or traditional tortoiseshell, to a military style camouflage perfect for seeing you through to AW14.

Oval
Last but not least, it’s good news for those blessed with oval faces. The eyewear world is your oyster with a face shape that works well with most styles. Match the angular lines of triangle bikinis with square acetate frames or inject a hefty dose of retro style with round rims and fabulously feminine cat eyes.
