When a restaurant is professed to be the best of two within the UK, such a statement certainly has our attention and when said restaurant just happens to be a pizzeria, it would just be rude not to go check out a slice for ourselves.
Located in Ancoats, at the brink of Manchester City Centre, Rudy’s boasts a humble little space off Cotton Street. Finding it is easy enough for the homegrown Mancunian, for outsiders it’s easy enough to Google Map directions.
We noticed upon entering the restaurant, décor was kept minimal and low budget. The pizza chefs were visibly hard at work across the front counter seating which offers a bird’s eye view to see your pizza make its journey from oven to table. Noted were other small tables were dotted around the room to serve further number, as we were led to the back waiting area, arriving on a Saturday afternoon it seems, was a bad move to make.
After a twenty minute wait, as we were advised, we were lead to our table at the front bar, allowing us the view of the pizza chefs making our order. As we surveyed the menu we were surprised at the low cost, a standard meal can cost less than ten pounds. Considering the venues excellent reviews, this was more than acceptable.
I ordered the Prosciutto Cotto, playing it safe and keeping things simple, adding just a bowl of crisps as a side, which made a nice little addition to the overall meal. The base is non-negotiable, staying true to the Neapolitan style of pizza which Rudy’s is renowned for.
The pizza itself is melt in your mouth satisfaction. Difficult to pick up in slices, it is recommended the pizza is tackled armed with cutlery as to not make to much mess. Tender yet still filling, my pizza lived up to anticipation and I soon found myself recounting raving reviews to friends who asked how it was.
Mega cheap and mouth wateringly good, it’s difficult to say what more you would want from a local pizzeria (not much it is presumed).
