The great thing about conventions and expos is the creative license they allow for revellers, as demonstrated in the recent Play Expo Manchester Cosplay shown at the event this weekend.
Originating in Japan where the first tournament took place in 2012, the Red Bull 5G is inspired by traditional 5 vs 5 martial arts tournaments, playing homage to the classic rivalry between east and west, and a growing culture of competitive gaming.
The Expo itself features a host of games to try, ranging from old school Nintendo and Sega classics to the games of the future featuring Virtual Reality technology. Classic games were featured, making it only natural that guests would be tempted to dress up as their favourite characters.
Not just content with browsing the floor in costume, the Play Expo Cosplay elite were invited to take part in a Masquerade, where they were in turn introduced to the main stage in front of an energetic audience to play out their decided character’s persona in real life. The Masquerade proved a popular highlight of the event, which took place on 8th and 9th October, drawing in a large crowd for the showcase of entertainment.
